I am wondering if any other museums have made the change from traditional guided tours to interactive carts for their visiting school groups? With the number of active volunteer docents dwindling, the challenges with training new docents, and the need for more hands-on/interactive elements to engage students we are considering moving to carts. Instead of a docent guide, teachers/chaperons would take their group to whichever exhibits and carts they would like. Teachers would be able to request specific carts depending on the needs of their students.

If not carts, what other solutions have you all found to make your visitor experience more interactive, and not overwhelm your docents with training?

Thank you!
