Museum Listers in Oregon and other Pacific Northwest states should mark May
4-5 on their calendars. These are the dates for the fourth annual Oregon
Heritage Conference. This year's conference will be held in Bend, Oregon.

David Crosson, President and CEO of History San Jose, is the conference
keynote speaker. His topic is "George Orwell, Dogfood, and Epiphany: the
Future of Historical Organizations in America." Also on the program are
discussions of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial, Native American and
Euroamerican perspectives on heritage, heritage interpretation, pioneer
cemetery preservation, planned giving, development of life histories, and
the proposed $200-million-plus Oregon Trust for Cultural Development. These
sessions will be complemented by presentations on improving public access to
historical information in rural and urban areas, the use of newspapers in
popularizing local history, and architectural heritage. There will also be
a workshop on Past Perfect collections management software.

April 3 is the last date to register for the conference and be eligible for
registration and hotel accommodation discounts. For more information or
registration details, contact the Oregon Heritage Commission at
