According to Carol Brandt:
>Does anyone have any sources for gardening curricula for
>elementary and mid-school levels?...

The Virginia Museum of Natural History in a joint project with
the Virginia Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries developed
"Virginia Schools Gardening for Wildlife." A curriculum was
created that enables elementary and middle schools to maintain
wildlife gardens on school grounds as a learning center.

That curriculum includes activities and lessons that were put
together with much help from elementary and middle-level
teachers. VMNH and DGIF have also developed a workshop for
teachers to help them get started on this project.

This past school year, 20 schools across Virginia started
gardens after teachers completed this workshop. The entire
program was largely supported by a couple of private sponsors,
including the state nurserymen's association, which is donating
to the schools the plants used in the program.

We think it's been quite successful. If you would like more
information, call Bonnie Wilson at (540) 666-8621 (she's in our
Education Dept.).
