Last month, we opened an exhibition, in cooperation with the Red Cross Society
of Canada. It includes two components. The first is several cases of material
illustrating the humanitarian role of the Red Cross in time of war. The second
(and, to me, far more interesting component) includes 50 paintings by children
in the former Yugoslavia (on at least two sides of the conflict) depicting the
tragedies of war and the work of the Red Cross in that country.

The paintings are very moving and have attracted considerable public attention.
They can be viewed on the Canadian Red Cross website (www.redcross.ca) or via a
link from our own website (the link to be established early next week). The
collection is owned by the international Red Cross and I am sure it would be
available to other museums early in 1998, through your national Red Cross
society.
