Below is the information for the Sen. John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History
Center:

1. What fees are charged for student tours?
$3.75/student for tours, $4.75 for our more concentrated classroom type
programs. With a minimum of 15 students, chaperones are 1 free for every
10 children, $4.50 beyond that. (our walk-in prices are $3.00 for children
6-18, and $6.00 for adults) Standard tours are 2 hours (1/2 hr added for
lunch if desired) with additional costs for more than 3 hrs (3 1/2 with
lunch)

2. Are there additional fees for hands on activities or guides/docents?
All school tours are docent-led. Whatever age-appropriate hands-on
activities we have are also included in the above costs.

3. Are there any instances where school groups would receive discounts or
free admission?
The past couple of years, we have combined grant funding with PA title VI
money to offer reduced admission to the History Center for 3rd grade classes
in the Pittsburgh city schools. (the title VI money pays for the busses)

4. How many school tours (total student attendance)are done in a year?
last fiscal year, we had about 20,000 school attendees on about 350 tours.

5. How many commercial tours (total attendance) are done in a year?
Last FY, we had about 6000 "adult" (non-school) attendees on about 240
tours.

6. How many guides/docents are available?
we have about 26 volunteer docents and 4 p/t staff.

7. Who takes the calls for school tours (education department or
otherwise)?
Group tour coordinator (was under marketing when we opened, but was made
part of education about 2 1/2 yrs later.)

8. What are this person's hours?
M-F 8:00-4:00

9. How do you label the phone tree/website so that school groups know whom
to speak with versus commercial tours, etc.?
All groups interested in tours go through the group tour coordinator.

10. Who is responsible for docent training/scheduling (education department
or otherwise)?
Education Department
