Hello--
I can't be sure about museum programs, but from what I have learned as
editor of my online newsletter, "Resources in Art History for Graduate
Students" (http://members.efn.org/~acd/resources.html) no online Ph.D.
programs exist for art history. However, you could spend your time at
home boning up on some necessary skills, such as languages or writing.
Fluency in German (or Yiddish, etc...) and the publication of an article
or two would make you much more attractive to PhD programs, which are
now very competitive, despite the lack of jobs.
