SOLINET is pleased to announce that there are still seats available for
the following class on May 4 at the Georgia Tech Main Library Homer Rice
Center:


ATTACK OF THE GIANT MOLD SPORE : MOLD PREVENTION AND REMEDIATION FOR
CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS
 
This full-day class provides a general introduction to mold and its
impact on library, museum, and archival collections. Through lecture and
discussion, the class examines:

*Understanding mold
*How to avoid an outbreak
*Appropriate mitigation and eradication treatments *Current standards
for mold remediation *Recent insurance claim problems *Protecting staff
and patrons

Several approaches to cleaning mold will be covered:

*Organizing your cleaning efforts
*Simple, safe techniques for mold removal, including the use of HEPA
vacuums 
*Avoiding the use of most chemicals *Working with commercial firms -
developing contracts and specifications

Participants will be provided with handouts on molds and treatment
approaches, a reading list, and a sampling dish.
 
Intended audience:
 
Librarians, archivists, curators, registrars, and those responsible for
collections; those responsible for pest control at the facility;
physical plant or housekeeping staff; professionals interested in
expanding their field of expertise; commercial firms interested in
expanding their expertise in the field. 

Cost: 

$145 for all SOLINET members and $185 for non-members.  Early bird
discounts and late fees may apply.  SOLINET Preservation classes are
funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the
Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access, and so any institution
from Georgia qualifies for the member rate upon registration for this
