In 1906, my grandfather, Charles A. Whitney, was an engineer working for
the National Board of Fire Underwriters, and was assigned to write a
report on the fire that followed the earthquake. I think I may still have
a copy, but if I don't, the NBFU might still have a copy.

Now the down side, when my mother was moving out of her house in the late
1970s, she tossed all of her father's nitrate negatives, including
ones that I knew were from SF in 1906. :-(
