Museum Educator for the National Capital Radio & Television Museum to
prepare curriculum for a summer camp for elementary-age children.

Responsibilities

Working with the summer camp team and other staff and volunteers of
the Museum, the contractor  will be responsible for designing 70 hours
(two weeks) of summer camp curricula for K-2, 3-4, and 5-6. Although
there are 70 hours for each grade group, it is anticipated that the
activities will be basically the same for each grade level, but with
added levels of complexity for the older students. The curricula will
be based on the State of Maryland’s standards of learning in both
science and social studies. In addition, the curricula will be
object-based and will incorporate materials under development by the
Museum for K-6 visitors. The curricula will be highly interactive. The
Museum has identified examples of activities for the children, but
lesson plans for each day must be developed for use by the camp
counselors. Both radio/television technology as well as the cultural
and social aspects of radio and television will be included in the
curriculum.

Qualifications

Required Experience
MA in Museum Education. Experience in designing programs/educational
curricula aimed at children, for an object-based museum environment,
involving history and science components.
At least 5 years’ experience as a museum educator.
Experience research, writing, and designing educational curricula for
an object-based Museum environment
Experience in establishing program goals and objectives to meet
national curriculum standards while employing object-based learning
techniques

Preferred
Ideal candidates will live in the metropolitan Washington, DC, area.

Work to be completed
The contractor will meet with the summer camp team to establish
deadlines for curriculum components. The contractor will then meet
with the summer camp team in person or via electronic meetings no less
than weekly to go over the lesson plans as they are being developed.
It is expected that the work will be completed no later than May 15.

The Museum has budgeted $6,000 for this work. Proposers should state
an hourly rate and an estimate of hours to complete this task.
Invoices will be submitted following each set of 20 hours of lesson
plans (k-2,3-4, and 5-6) completed. The final invoice will be for the
last 10 hours.
