In my internship at the Morton Arboretum (www.mortonarb.org) over summer
2001 I created outdoor activity backpacks for a woodland trail--free to
borrow for the length of a visit. I found the Chicago Botanic Gardens
evaluation & manual of their similar work extremely helpful. Try contacting
their education department to get a copy of their findings. Although their
pack is meant for outdoor use, they lay out exactly what they've put into
their kits and why and even include a full supplier and costing list.

After some preliminary evaluation on my kits, it appears that although I had
included lots of different activities to cater to a range of ages and
diverse learning styles, some families were overwhelmed with the number of
'things' in the pack. Sometimes 'less is more'. Good luck

Carla
