Monthly salary: $ 2667 negotiable depending on qualifications. 

Location: Arlington, TX 

Purpose of position: Assists in planning and execution of outreach activities to promote the holdings of Special Collections. Helps design and install exhibits, both in the library and online, assists with conferences and seminars, and provides preservation assistance. 

Essential functions: Works with the Special Collections Program Coordinator and other Special Collections staff members to plan, fabricate, and install exhibits for Special Collections. Works with Special Collections Program Coordinator and staff to support and implement Special Collections' events and outreach activities. Coordinates logistics for biennial Virginia Garrett Lectures on the History of Cartography. Helps produce exhibit catalogs/brochures for selected exhibits. Prepares online exhibits; contributes to, monitors, and ensures adherence to protocols for the program area's scanned images database. Coordinates loans of materials to borrowing institutions and maintains loan paperwork, maintains art and artifacts inventory, and coordinates delivery and return of materials sent for digitization. Performs general preservation techniques for Special Collections materials. Compiles quarterly exhibit supply requests and maintains exhibit supplies and equipment. May supervise a student assistant. 

Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in art, architecture, graphic design, or a related field. 2 years of experience in exhibit design or a related design field, including 1 year of experience with word processing, database, imaging, and website design software or related field. 

Preferred qualifications: Experience designing, fabricating, and installing exhibits as well as a knowledge of related tools and equipment; experience in planning meetings, functions, etc.; good organizational skills; ability to plan and carry out projects; good interpersonal skills; an eye for detail; an interest in historical documents, maps, and libraries; and experience in the preservation of library materials.
