University of St Andrews
*Museum and Gallery Studies
Part-time study at the University of St Andrews*

Are you looking for progression or a change of direction in your career?
Do you need a professional qualification?
Do you want to broaden your understanding of the work of museums and
galleries?
Would you like to study in a beautiful historic setting?

*Applications are now invited for our next part-time Diploma/M.Litt.
course starting in January 2010.*

If you are working in a museum or gallery, either paid or as a
volunteer, you can use your practical experience towards the coursework
and write up your professional activities for assessment to gain a
Graduate Diploma in Museum and Gallery Studies.

The Graduate Diploma/MLitt course is a version of our successful and
long-established full-time course and offers an overview of the purposes
and activities of museums and galleries. It is open to applicants with a
degree in any subject and to students without a degree but with
considerable professional experience in a museum or gallery. Applicants
are welcomed from Scotland, the rest of the UK and overseas.
(Participants from Continental Europe and North America have
successfully completed the course in the past.)

Work is spread over two years and students attend four short sociable
residential schools in St Andrews, which include contributions by
professionals from the sector. The Graduate Diploma can be converted to
M.Litt. on production of an dissertation of up to 15,000 words,
submitted five months after the formal end of the taught course

The four one-week residential schools will be held in January and June
2010, and January and June 2011 (exact dates to be confirmed).
