Exhibitions Registrar:  The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, self-starting individual for the position of Exhibitions Registrar. Manages and oversees budgeting, record keeping and shipping and courier arrangements for loans and exhibitions.  Negotiates and implements loan agreements, including packing, shipping, security, insurance and storage or display conditions of loans to special exhibitions.  Reviews exhibition contracts and venue agreements.  Oversees master shipping schedule for works from the collection.  Ensures the quality and accuracy of documentation in the Collections Management System for exhibitions, loans and art shipments.  Determines insurance requirements for special exhibitions and prepares U.S. Indemnity applications.  Supervises assistant registrars for exhibitions, incoming loans and outgoing loans and graduate intern. May  travel for exhibition planning and/or courier duties.  Responsible for the operations of the Registrar's Office in the absence of the Chief Registrar.  

5-7 years of museum registration experience required.   Skills in collections management, art handling and movement, and administration required.  Must have an understanding of and familiarity with various means of local, national and international transport and how each affects works of art. Experience with database systems and Windows-based software required. Experience with the Museum System by Gallery Systems preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be diplomatic and have strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with a wide range of staff and outside professionals; project management skills; strong administrative skills to handle paperwork and meet deadlines required.  Reading and conversation skills in one foreign language preferred.  Bachelor's degree required, MA in art history or museum studies preferred.
