If it were me, I would start grant writing and find a source of money to pay
your salary, then you already will have a job and the question is moot. How
much time do you have before you need the salary (assuming that you don't
absolutely desperately need it right now in that you are willing to
volunteer). There are not enough jobs out there for people starting out as
there is (I know, I'm looking HARD). So contact TIS, IMS, AAM, NEH (or NEA),
see if you can schmooze someone on the City Council. Use your charm, your
brain and your wits. It sounds like a cool opportunity. Also, don't forget
about corporate sponsorship, check with your local business bureau. Figure
out what you need, and then write a proposal for it and farm it out. If you
think about it, 22K (or whatever, just a figure) is not a big deal to most
companies, especially if it gives them some kind of break or write-off, or
their name on the wall or something. Don't forget to set yourself up for the
duration of how long it will take you to set up the programs at the museum.
