Position: Museum Teacher
National Building Museum, Washington, DC	

Description:
This is a part-time position lasting through June 15, 2003.  The museum
teacher teaches school/scout programs, after-school programs, and birthday
parties, and assists in conducting family programs.  Each school/scout
program lasts two hours, plus one hour for set up/clean up.  Times for
weekend programs vary.  The museum teacher reports directly to both the
school programs coordinator and scout and family programs coordinator.  The
museum teacher's schedule can be flexible but requires 12-20 hours per week
with at least one weekend time slot per month. 

Possible hours include: 
*    weekdays (from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; 12:00-3:00 p.m.; and or/ 4:00-7:00
p.m.) 
*    weekends (times vary) 
In addition, a weekends-only position (minimum of two weekend days per
month) is available.

Duties:
*    Prepare classrooms for programs, including set- and clean-up and
replenishing supplies 
*    Greet groups and teach at least three different school/scout programs 
*    Assist with family programs.  This includes program set-up, execution,
and clean-up
*    Meet with school and scout and family programs coordinator on a regular
basis
*    Handle administrative tasks as needed 
*    Attend ongoing training sessions (evenings in Sept. 2003 and throughout
the year) 

Qualification Requirements:
*    Degree in education, museum education, or teaching certificate 
*    Two or more years experience teaching in a museum or classroom
*    Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills 
*    Knowledge of architecture, design, civil engineering, and the built
environment a plus
*    Flexibility and enthusiasm for working with children 
*    Scouting background a plus

Salary:
*    $35-45 per school, scout, birthday party program (programs require 3-3˝
hours of work), or 
*    $10/hour for facilitating family programs and performing administration
work
