2001 BF Foundation Internship at the Museum of Northern Arizona

Founded in 1928,  the Museum of Northern Arizona is one of the few
institutions in the Southwest to combine a public education and exhibit
program with a research center.  The Museum is known worldwide for its
exploration of the natural and cultural history of the region.  A
special legacy of the Museum of Northern Arizona is its relationship
with Native American artists,  scholars, religious leaders, and
communities.  To further this relationship,  the Museum in cooperation
with the BF Foundation,  has established an annual program of three
12-week summer internships in museum studies for Native American
students.

Internship Description:
The internships are an integral part of the Museum's Heritage Program,
which includes a regularly changing sales exhibition of Native
American,  Hispanic,  and Western regional art; a Festival of Hispanic
Arts and Crafts;  Hopi, Navajo, and Zuni Marketplaces; and the Festival
of Pai Arts.  Along with hands-on activities,  interns will be involved
in a stimulating educational program which will include the following:
interns will spend four days in Santa Fe and will tour museums and
interview museum staff;  will participate in two evening discussion
sessions with professionals in the fields of Native American art and
museums; will visit a tribal cultural center; and attend educational
events at the Museum.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled Native American undergraduate or graduate
students with at least a 3.0 GPA and an interest in museum studies, art
history, business, design, public programming, history, or anthropology.

Dates:
The 12-week,  full-time (35 hours per week) summer internships begin
mid-May and end in early August.  Allowance will be made for qualified
applicants attending institutions on a quarter system.

Living Allowance:
A weekly allowance of $267 will be provided to cover living expenses.
Interns are responsible for their own transportation and health
insurance.  Housing will be provided at no charge if needed.  (A
refundable security deposit and resident contract are required for
housing).

The Following materials must be received at the Museum no later than
April 25,  2001:

* A resume that reflects your work history, current major, and academic
and/or other honors
* A one-page, typed, double-spaced statement relating why you are
interested in this internship and how it will assist you in your career
objectives.
* Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which is from academic
staff at your college or university.
* Proof of college or university enrollment and transcript (may be
unofficial).
* Verification of Tribal affiliation.
* Telephone number and time when you can be reached during the day for a
telephone interview.
