PROGRAM ASSISTANT
SAVE OUTDOOR SCULPTURE!
This is an entry-level support position, primarily concerned with
administrative services for the project Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!), a
national inventory and condition assessment of outdoor sculpture. The project
position is part of the NIC staff and is expected to continue through December
1996.
The National Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Property is the only
national, nonprofit organization that works to coordinate preservation
activities for all types of cultural expressions in the United States: works
of art, anthropological artifacts, precious documents, historic relics, and
landmark architecture. Through research projects, publications and educational
programs, NIC provides a national forum and clearinghouse for conservation
efforts of many aspects of American culture. In addition, NIC seeks to
heighten public awareness among decision makers in both the private and public
sectors to bring conservation issues to the forefront of public debate.
Application is by resume with cover letter detailing professional goals,
relevant skills, experiences and aptitudes and reasons for interest in NIC in
general and SOS! specifically; include a one-page writing sample.  No

Primary  Duties:
1.     Provide weekly updates of mail list database and bimonthly updates of
owner/administrator database.
2.     Promptly and accurately tally and transfer all SOS! Survey
Questionnaires received from SOS! projects to the National Museum of American
Art.
3.     Fulfill requests for materials and generate invoices when necessary.
4.     Maintain all project charts to track cash and in-kind for local
projects  and treatment, maintenance and next-step efforts.
5.     Respond to incoming and outgoing correspondence in a timely manner.
6.    Serve as liaison with National Museum of American Art regarding
volunteer and project coordinator thank you letters.
7.    Generate labels and oversee mailings to project volunteers and
coordinators.
8.    Maintain "SOS! Family Album" of volunteers.
9.    Assist with ongoing activities of maintenance advisory group,
international symposium, workshop series and publicity.
10. Assist SOS! Director with random sample survey of questionnaires.
11. Maintain press files for national and local SOS! projects.
12. Coordinate implementation of post-SOS! plans to remind conservation and
art administrators and others to continue to update the Inventory of American
Sculpture.
13. Coordinate one issue of SOS! Update.
14. Accept other duties as assigned.
