Richard:

Nearly everyone I know (including me) got their first job in the museum
in which they began as a volunteer.  i bet you've been told this before
but are hoping it's not true.
if and when i have been in the position to hire someone, I would
naturally chose someone with prior museum experience, volunteer or
otherwise.
