We here at the KU Natural History Museum are using the HOBO recorders in our
collections to record temeperature, humidity and light intensity of our wet
collection facility. We have had excellent returns on our meagre investment
($95 per logger + $95 for software). We have four of them on each of the
four floors of our facility and are using them to justify for an upgrade to
our HVAC system. We also use the light intensity to determine use of the
collections as lights are always kept off. So, whenever the lights are on
one can assume that the collection is being used.
They are very easy to operate and offload and provide very accurate data.
We have also purchased the HOBO shuttle which makes downloading of data for
multiple units a lot easier and also the units do not have to be removed to
be offloaded.
The only drawback of the H8 dataloggers is that you cannot get any
instantaneous readout from them. So, we have just purchased their new LCD
screen HOBO recorder for this purpose ($189).
I would recommend them highly.
