"An Oregon survey indicates that only 33% of 102 museums contacted (out of a
total of about 250 museums in the state) have their own Internet access.
Some other museums have indirect Internet access through personal accounts

Is anyone aware of studies that would provide this kind of information
nationally, by region, or in states other than Oregon?"

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is in the final stages
of preparing a survey of technology used in musuems and libraries. The
survey will be sent to random samples of museums and libraries nationwide,
with results expected before summer. Questions about the available
technology in museums, including Internet access and many other
applications, will be part of the survey. We're also interested in
digitization activities. We plan to present information about the survey
and the available results at the AAM Conference in St. Louis in May, as well
as publish complete information through the IMLS Web site.
