POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
CONNER MUSEUM
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT

OPENING:June 15, 2001
CLOSING:July 3, 2001

SALARY: $6.05 per hour
STATUS: Part-time Temporary
(19 hours/week)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports to Museum Educator and assists in the development of educational
programs designed for area school children and assists with volunteer
coordinating and scheduling of school tours to the museum.

JOB DUTIES

1.Assists in the recruitment and training of museum volunteers as tour
guides  and outreach program instructors.
2.Develops new educational kits and responsible for the maintenance of
kits currently being circulated by the museum.
3.Assists in the organizational and implementation of museum summer
youth programs.
4.Provides public relations with area schools to encourage the use of
museum tours and educational resources.
5.Works on a rotating Saturday schedule as the staff member on duty.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS: High school diploma or GED,
prefer with two years of college or an equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience.  Excellent interpersonal skills and
ability to deal effectively with diverse groups.  Excellent oral and
written communication skills.  Requires organizational and time
management skills and availability to work a varied work schedule and
rotating weekend hours.  Demonstrated experience in providing program
assistance required.  Prefer a B.A. in History, Education or
Natural Sciences.  Tour guiding, working with teachers as classroom aide
or  volunteer, curriculum development, and/or museum related experience
preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, stooping, climbing, and walking are
required.  May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.

The above duties may not be performed in every position with this title
and the above functions may not include all related duties that might be
performed.  Requires physical activities supportive of the above job
duties.  Reasonable accommodations will be made as necessary.
