Ross Week's question -- "what is a 'Yankee,' anyway?" -- reminds me of a
favorite old joke:

In most of the world, a "Yankee" is someone from the United States.

In the United States, a "Yankee" is someone from north of the
Mason-Dixon line.

North of the Mason-Dixon line, a "Yankee" is someone from New England.

In New England, a "Yankee" is someone from Vermont.

Offered on a Friday afternoon, with no malice towards anyone,
Vermontonian or otherwise....

Buffy: Uh, I was looking at the fishes.
Willow: Was it cool?
Buffy: It was fishes.
