I don't know if this will help, but, generally what I do to decrease the
amount of messages in my "In" box is to create a mailbox for unread "in"
messages, in which I can store them until I get the time to look at them.
For instance I did not have the time to look at most of my mail last week
because I was out of town and sick, so I created a box called "In Mail
2/23/96."  Here I stored all messages from last week.  That cleared my in
box so that incoming mail is not impeded.  I also do this when I know I'm
going to be away for some time.  That might solve some of your problems.  I
have not experienced your problem ("in" messages reappearing after being
trashed) with Eudora, so it could be  a local situation.  Good luck.
