Emily,
Our policy is that immediate family members of employees receive free admission any time. In addition to that, each year all employees are given a certain number of guest passes to handout to whomever they like. So if you have family or friends coming from out of town, like in your example, if you gave them some of those free passes they would not have to pay admission.

Hello all,
We are evaluating our policies regarding guest priviledges for staff as well as for off-the-clock volunteer visits. How does it work at your institution?
Some sample scenarios:
-your mom wants to come see where you work -you want to tour friends visiting from out of town through your museum -a volunteer comes to visit the museum on a day he or she is not volunteering
The question is, do they pay?
