Then there are those of us whose specialties seem quite far away from
military history but have gained a genuine appreciation for the field. As
Curator of Textiles at the Allentown Art Museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania,
I recently had an article published in Dress, The Journal of the Costume
Society of America titled "Shoulder to Shoulder: Women's Patriotic Scarves
of World War II." The project involved a good deal of research identifying
the military insignias, vehicles, and references to obscure battles printed
on these scarves from the U.S., France, Australia and England. The project
opened a whole new world to me that I find fascinating.
