Join the South Carolina Federation of Museums (SCFM) for a day-long look at
Children and Museums, August 9, 1999 at the South Carolina State Museum in
Columbia.  Registration will begin in the museum's Vista Room at 9 am.

The workshop will address the learning styles of children grades K-5 in a
museum environment.  Professionals from the University of South Carolina's
education department, as well as a variety of museum educators from the
South Carolina Aquarium, the South Carolina State Museum, and EdVenture,
will discuss early childhood education, interactive programming, community
outreach and working within curriculum guidelines.  Hands-on activities in
the State Museum's Stringer Discovery Center and information on creating
activities on a "shoestring" budget will also be featured.

The workshop will run from 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, August 9, 1999.  The
registration fee is $35 for SCFM members and $45 for non-members.  Lunch is
included in the registration fee.  The registration
deadline is August 5, 1999.  For more information or to register, please

The Children and Museums Workshop is organized by the South Carolina State
Museum in cooperation with the South Carolina Federation of Museums.
