The Hegeler Carus Foundation
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


The Hegeler Carus Foundation seeks an executive director to lead this
growing not-for-profit organization.  Founded in 1995, the Hegeler Carus
Foundation owns the Hegeler Carus Mansion, located in LaSalle, Illinois,
near the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal and approximately 90 miles
southwest of Chicago.  It is an outstanding example of Second Empire
domestic architecture and a site of tremendous significance in the
industrial, intellectual, and architectural history of the Midwest and the
nation.  The mansion is currently undergoing a multimillion dollar
restoration and is open to the public on a limited basis.  The foundation's
collections include decorative objects, photographs, correspondence, and
memorabilia.  The organization currently has a 3-person staff and
approximately 25 volunteers.  The executive director will report to the
chairperson of the board of directors and will oversee the foundation's
operations.


Responsibilities:
§ Develop annual and long-range plans and supervise their implementation.
§ Develop annual operating and capital budgets and manage all financial
aspects of the organization
§ Create and implement a marketing and fundraising plan to increase
awareness of the mansion and its mission and to generate public support of
the project
§ Oversee programs interpreting the Hegeler Carus Mansion, its history, and
its collections to diverse audiences
§ Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff
§ Participate in the recruitment of board members and provide staff support,
as required, to the chairperson and the board


Qualifications:
§ A bachelor's degree in a related field; an advanced degree is preferred
§ Demonstrable success in raising public and private funds
§ Experience managing museums and/or historic properties
§ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
§ Strong organizational skills


The successful candidate will be a strong leader, able to provide vision and
guidance to the board and the staff.  He or she will be proactive, creative,
innovative, and possess a strong desire to succeed and to motivate people.
Also, he or she will be able to quickly learn new information and new skills
and will be capable of performing a wide variety of tasks in this
challenging role.
