Museum Curator - Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records,
Museum Division. Starting Salary: $40,000 - $48,000 per year, DOE
Work Location: 1700 W. Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ  85007. Apply By:
Open until filled - Review of applications will begin August 20, 2005
and continue until position is filled. With a museum focus on the
governmental history of Arizona, the Curator will:

Provide leadership, direction and professional expertise in the
development of exhibits, collections and public outreach strategies. 

Direct and conduct research, establish interpretive goals, prepare plans
for their implementation, oversee fabrication, installation, evaluation
and maintenance of exhibitions. Work with consultants, vendors and
contractors, prepare and oversee exhibit budgets, and identify and
develop proposals for grant and gift opportunities. 

Organize and direct exhibit development teams from Museum staff and
specialists from other divisions of the Agency, docent volunteers and
student interns. 

Oversee and make decisions relating to daily workflow of exhibits and
collections activities and supervise a staff of 2.5 FTE responsible for
exhibits design, preparation and collections management. 

Assist in development of all Museum public programs. Note: This position
is not covered by the Arizona State Personnel Merit System Rules. 

Desired Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge and experience in professional museum standards and practices,
project planning and management, administration, supervision, and
mentoring and training.  

Knowledge of computer applications for exhibits and collections database
(preferably PastPerfect) and thorough grounding in collections
management. 

Knowledge of southwest and western history. 

Excellent communication and organizational skills. 

Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in museum studies, history,
public history, anthropology or other closely related field.  Minimum
five years experience in exhibits and collections management in a museum
or comparable setting and three years supervisory experience.How to
