The Dakota Territorial Museum is seeking applications for a full-time paid
intern (pref. upperclassman or graduate student) to work four months during
the summer of 1998. The Museum, which is located in Yankton, SD, focuses
on the history of Dakota Territory and Yankton's role as the first
Territorial Capital. 20th century County history is also heavily
emphasized. The approximate working dates of this position are early May
to early September; starting and ending dates are somewhat flexible. The
possibility also exists for an extension to five or six months for those
who need an extended internship.

The internship will afford significant opportunity to work with exhibits
and educational programming, and a background and interest in one or both
of these areas is highly preferred. An interest in working with objects
and programming related to American Western history is very desirable, as
well as a willingness to work in a small museum environment. The ability
to direct volunteer workers who will assist with programming and exhibit
work is required. Also some day-to-day operational work. Compensation for
the position is $7/hr with vacation days.

Interested parties should send a letter of interest and a resume to:

Director
Dakota Territorial Museum
P.O. Box 1033
Yankton, SD 57078
