Your board members are probably referring to the pre-engineered metal buildings made by Butler Manufacturing Company (http://www.butlermfg.com/) and many competitors. These have metal internal support framework as well as metal walls and roofs and are designed to be competitors to similarly pre-engineered wood frame pole buildings built by Morton Buildings or local contractors. These buildings go up quick, generally offer the most space for the money, and allow an endless number of options as far as dimesions, colors, insulation, and decorative materials.

These buildings can be designed to maintain very stable environments if they are insulated and ventilated properly. I have seen a number of very good collections storage facilties built using this type of building, although not necessarily of the Butler brand specifically.

Subject: Collections Storage Building

While trying to look into various options for dealing with our lack of =

collections storage space, various board members suggested using a "Butle=
r
Style Building." Since I am unfamiliar with this type of building, I am =

hoping someone out there in the museum community will be able to give me =

some pros and cons of this type of building.

At this point it is still up for debate if the building would be a brand =

new butler style building or if we can convert a building we already own =

into collections storage. Has anyone had any experience with using a =

butler style building as a collections storage facility?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
