The annual meetings of the regional museum associations
(MMC, MAAM, etc) are often interesting from a museum
administrator, registrar, educator point of view (I think
that's what the bulk of the papers deal with).  I will be
there (okay, I'll be chairing two sessions) and would be
happy to meet face-to-face any of the museum-l people I've
been happily e-mailing to.  I would encourage new museum
professionals and students to attend  - if they can afford
it - since it is a great opportunity to meet other museeum
people in the regional and is generally more affordable that
the national AAM meeting.
