Around ten years ago a superb exhibition entitled, I think, the "Victorian
Way of Death" was mounted at Elizabeth Bay House in Sydney Australia.

This exhibit contained fantastic funereal memorabilia from coffin plumes to
macabre hair lockets and jet jewellery. The old mansion designed by John
Vierge in 1838 was a remarkable backdrop for this very formal exhibition.It
was very well received by a fascinated public.
