COLLECTIONS MANAGER

A Fortune 500, family owned, consumer products multinational company located
in Wisconsin seeks a Collections Manager to implement professional
care and control of the company's historical materials. This person will be
responsible for the care of several thousand artifact and archival items
dating from the late 1800s to the present. Included in the collections are:
company products, records and advertising; founding family materials; and
important architectural furnishings and archival items pertaining to
buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Collections management is a new
initiative for the company, so the Collections Manager must:
1. initiate the development of, and implementation systems behind
appropriate and necessary policies, principles and procedures for
the professional management of the collections;
2. find, assess and select historical materials from corporate storage areas
for inclusion in the permanent collection;
3. organize, properly house, and implement appropriate record keeping
systems according to standard museum and archives procedures;
4. develop a preservation plan for the long-term care of the collections;
5. oversee the selection and equipping of a long-term suitable storage
facility.

Personal Qualities/Qualifications:
 A knowledge of the standards and practices of professional museum
collections management is required. This is normally gained through a
graduate degree from a Museum Studies program and at least five years
experience in a collections management position. Experience and/or knowledge
of archival management and preservation issues would be a bonus, as would
college degrees/studies in American history, architectural history, business
history, the history of technology, or a combination of relevant experience
and training. The successful candidate will recognize the extraordinary

historical facility. He/she will possess many of the following
qualities: organized, detail oriented; self starter, highly motivated,
creative; innovative problem solver; interpersonal skills; manual/physical
dexterity; ability to train and supervise volunteers; ability to identify
preservation and conservation needs, then take corrective action to satisfy
those needs; writing and computer skills; competency to operate cataloging
and inventory computer programs; strong organizational and technical skills;
ability to work collaboratively on complex projects.

This is a five-year contract position, renewable annually. Starting salary
range is $40,000-$45,000 depending on experience and training (salary
suggestions from highly qualified persons will be considered). Relocation
allowance will be provided. Cost of health care and insurance will be
