The Children's Museum of Virginia is in the process of renovating it's
facility. The
project opened in 1992 in a 20 year old 60,000 square foot facility
department
store. A copy of the request for exhibit design services is attached for
all those
interested in submitting on this project. Please note that there is a
mandatory on site
meeting at the museum at 2PM: April 24, 2002 for those interested in
submitting a
proposal on May 5, 2002. A complete copy of the RFP is available by
contacting
Richard Hartman, City Engineer or William Greaves.

REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS
CITY OF PORTSMOUTH

The City of Portsmouth is seeking a fully qualified museum exhibit
design firm
experienced in master planning for interactive children’s museums. The
selected firm
will collaborate with the Architect and Engineer presently under
contract with the
City of Portsmouth as well as a staff team. The task will be to evaluate
the facilities,
programs, staffing needs, exhibits and labeling system at the Children’s
Museum of
Virginia and to provide plans and specifications that correspond to the
recommendations.  The intention is not to discard existing exhibitions
but to evaluate
in light of maintenance, safety, ADA issues and usage.  Recommendations
are sought
for upgrades as well as new exhibitions to replace those that are
recommended for
closing.  The Firm will work closely with the Architect/Engineer on a
thorough facility
use study that includes the option of re-orienting the entrance to the
facility and
incorporating additional space into the existing building.
Interested parties may call the office of the City Engineer at (757)
393-8592 to
request a more detailed scope of work.  The selected firm shall work
under the
direction of the City Engineer and the Director of Museums. Firms
interested in
submitting will be required to attend a mandatory pre-submittal meeting
to be held at
the Children’s Museum on April 24, 2002 at 2:00pm. This will be the only
time
period during which you will be able to tour the facilities with staff
and ask questions.
Firms shall identify specific individuals proposed for this project and
their
qualifications in addition to the firm’s related experience.  Interested
firms shall
submit six copies of a statement of the firms qualification by 5:00 PM,
May 7, 2002

The selection of the successful vendor will be made in accordance with
Section
12-278 of the City Code, Negotiations for Professional Services. The
city does not
