The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix installed new outdoor signage in the mid-90s and I believe they were very happy with the results.  I'm sorry but I don't know the name of the company they used, but if you contact the Garden's education or exhibits staff, they should be able to talk about the signs with you.
