Is there any way an art layperson can look at works of art on paper and
determine whether it is tempera, acrylic, casein, etc? I have found
references stating what they are composed of, but cannot find any
references describing the characteristics of the finished piece, such as
glossy, matte, bold, washed-out, etc. I would appreciate any references
or personal help on this matter. Please respond off the list.

Thanks!
