Assistant for Accessions

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums seeks an Assistant for Accessions to report to the Assistant Registrar for Exams/Longterm Loans.  This person is responsible for the assigning of accession numbers for all works acquired into the Museum collections.  They also work closely on a daily basis with curatorial staff  to be sure that proper recordkeeping is maintained.  Other projects include archival record maintenance and working with TMS staff and the curators to resolve outstanding problems of accessioning. They are also responsible for culling examination files and closing out Registrar records for works that have been acquired.

Successful candidates will possess 1-2 years of work experience preferably in registration, administration, or a related field for a large organization.  Must be extremely well-organized individual with strong attention to detail.  Must have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work on several projects at once.
 
B.A. is required and a background in Art History is preferred.  Knowledge and expertise in cataloging and collections managements systems, such as TMS, is preferred.
