Place: Historic Deerfield, Deerfield, Massachusetts (one hour due north of
Hartford, Connecticut, if that helps.)
Pending final NEH approval (note: we received positive notification, but
we have to submit a revised budget and workplan), one new temporary,
twelve month position is being created to assist the Collections Manager
and the Photographer in the relocation of museum collections, including
ceramics, metalwares, glass, prints and paintings, textiles, and
furniture, to the Collections Study Center, a new facility.  There will be
light cleaning of objects and some basic cataloguing.
Job responsibilities also include assisting the Photographer, setting up
objects and studio lights, photographing objects in color and black and
white, developing B/W film, labeling/filing slides, record-keeping, data
entry in a collections database, and organizing photo records and files.

General qualifications:
B.A.;   M.A. from a museum studies or related program preferred;
strong interest in museums and the decorative arts;
strong skills in 35mm object photography, lighting, and B/W film
developing;
data entry skills and compter database familiarity;
demonstrated organizational skills and reliability;
ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;
valid driver's license;
the ability to lift heavy objects, sometimes carrying them up and down
narrow stairways.

pay:  $8.00/hour for a 35 hour week.  Free housing (not grand, but
livable) provided; free utilities except for telephone.  Start date: June
2, 1997.
