Position Purpose
Applicants must display a wide range of skills as the
Executive Director for a historical museum in an urban community outside Chicago.  The Executive Director will assure that the
Joliet Area Historical Museum (JAHM) objectives of tourist attraction, local
resident attendance, and education of visitors through displays and programs
are carried out by directing, supervising, and planning with staff and
volunteers.  The Executive Director must
display and impel in others a passion for guiding the operations of the Museum
and growing a permanent facility.
 
This position directs, supervises, and motivates staff, and
generates revenue, donations, fundraising, and grants for the betterment of
JAHM.  The Executive Director will
coordinate the ongoing development of the exhibits, programs, and personnel that
will contribute to the successful operation and development of JAHM.  They will also oversee maintenance of the
Museum, storage facility, and exhibits.  
 
The Executive Director is challenged with developing visitor
and community services, education, and special events within a limited
budget.  They assure the expansion and
presentation of vibrant public programs through in-house development,
partnerships, and collaborations. Another challenge is to effectively market
the facility to promote use by local residents and to attract tourism.  
 
Personal /
Professional Qualifications
The candidate will display proven success establishing and
maintaining productive relationships with prospective and active funders, peer
organizations, governing boards, and the public.  They will demonstrate leadership, management,
and budgeting experience.  Practice in
grant writing is highly desired.  Microsoft Word and Excel facility is required.  
 
Experience in community development, museum operations, or
the non-for-profit sector is required, or a Bachelor’s degree in a closely
related field. Masters preferred.  
 
The Executive Director will become acquainted with the basic
history of the Joliet
area. Traveling to civic and government meetings along with working the occasional
evening and weekend event is expected.  This person must have the ability to work in an urban setting and
maintain perspective with diverse groups in the community. 

Open until filled                                                      Salary: Commensurable with experience: $65,000 - $85,000 
This full-time position will begin as soon as possible
