POSITION AVAILABLE: Museum Education Assistant

LOCATION: Oriental Institute Museum, University of Chicago
The museum's collections focus on the history, art and archaeology of
ancient Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria and Turkey,

CLASSIFICATION: Full time, full benefits

General Summary:
To manage registration procedures and financial record-keeping for
all public education programs at the Oriental Institute Museum and to
provide marketing and graphic design for program promotion.

Overall Responsibilities
Scheduling, taking registrations, confirming, and managing financial
records for adult education, family activities, guided tours, and
school loan materials services at the Oriental Institute.  Responding
to telephone and e-mail requests for program information, and
marketing programs through design and development of flyers,
mailings, and press releases.  Occasional evening and weekend work to
assist with programs.

Qualifications
BA.  Strong organizational, written and oral communication, and
Macintosh computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Adobe PhotoShop,
and Quark Xpress.  Interest in art, history, archaeology, or
anthropology.  Experience in journalism, public relations, or museums
a plus. Self-starter.  Patient and positive attitude toward the
public, both in person and on the telephone.  Ability to focus in a
busy office environment filled with distractions.
