Join us April 13-15, 2005 at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio for
the 2005 Society of Ohio Archivists Spring Meeting. The theme of the
conference is "The Business of Archives: Tools of the Trade," and sessions
focus on developing business, technical, and practical skills for
archivists with all levels of experience. Dr. Herbert Woodward Martin of
the University of Dayton will dramatize the life and works of poet Paul
Laurence Dunbar for the plenary on Friday, April 15 (sponsored by the Ohio
Humanities Council). Other program highlights include:

TOURS
New this year are tours of area archives and sites, including the Library
of Congress Film Vault, Hawthorne Hill (home of the Wright Brothers),
Dayton Art Institute and Archives, and Carillon Historical Park.

SESSIONS
11 sessions will be offered on topics ranging from, "Documenting Diverse
Communities" to "New Approached to Creating Sustainable Archives." SOA has
partnered with several organizations to offer special workshops during the
conference, including, "Public Records Law for Archivists," "Adobe
Photoshop" and "Digitizing Photographs and Manuscripts."

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP ON GRANT WRITING
"Grant-Writing Workshop For Preservation and Digitization Projects" a pre-
conference workshop, will be held Wednesday, April 13. The full-day
workshop is offered at a reduced rate ($35) due to sponsorship by the Ohio
Historical Records Advisory Board. Delivered by OCLC, workshop
participants learn how to properly choose and prepare a grant proposal.

OTHER EVENTS
Wright State University Archives will host an evening reception on
Thursday, April 14. Student poster sessions will be held during the
reception, along with an SOA Business Meeting and elections. Other
exciting events during this year's conference include a Silent Auction,
and Evening Restaurant Tours.

Register now, as some of the workshops and tours have limited enrollment!
Conference rates start at $35 for SOA members, $45 for non-members and $25
for students (with I.D.). Pre-Registration ends March 13, 2005. Please do
