Well, I wasn't going to weigh in on this discussion, but you phrased
it so well. You have hit on the answer. The Tulsa Zoo should say in
their labels on creation:

"There are many creation myths that peoples, both ancient and modern,
have used to explain the origin and diversity of life. Some believed
that elephants were deities. Others believed that trees and rocks
were deities, or mountains, lightning, thunder, and other natural
objects. Some believed that there was a single supreme being who
created everything. Others believed in many gods. All are myths. As
science developed, myths were pushed to the background. Most people
no longer explain lightning by invoking Thor, or creation and
evolution by invoking God. Every society has their pet myths. Today,
the Tulsa Zoo will highlight religious myths related to animal
diversity, in the exhibit: CREATION MYTHS: FROM GANESHA TO GOD."

>That would be rather appropriate as well as provocative. I would have to
>agree with the sentiment...If the Tulsa Zoo is going to cave and allow
>their interpretation to be dictated by religious groups, then they should
>at the very least make sure that it is clear they are referring to
>non-scientific religious mythology, not something that relates to the
>reality of the beautiful creatures their visitors are actually there to see
>and learn about.
>
>I would be first in line to see that show.

>Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Tulsa Zoo and Creationism
>
>
>> Hello listers,
>> Without going into the religious side of the
>> discussion, I thought I'd bring this up to you folks.
>> The Tulsa Zoo has been ordered by its board to install
>> an exhibit on creationism. The zoo has an exhibit on
> > evolution, but what really got folks riled was a hindu
>> statue of an elephant (Ganesha), and a piece of art
>> that says "the earth is our mother." The
>> pro-creationism folks say the door was opened by the
>> Zoo when they put the info and icons on other
>> religions in the Zoo. There is info on the Tulsa World
>> and Daily Oklahoman web pages, but you must go through
>> the free registration process to read the articles.
>> Cheers
