Michael Smith,

I have recently been looking for a similar placement(s) with my program
out of the University of Toronto and I would suggest that you first decide
in what department or field in the museum (in general) you wish to work.
As well, you might want to make a short list of your top 3 or 4
institutions and get their contact information using the internet or
resources that must be available within your
department. Then phone, email or fax the people in charge of the area you
want to specialize or focus on and introduce
yourself, send them a C.V. and whatever else they may ask of you.
I have been doing just that and have found the people I have contacted on
the other end of the line very receptive and helpful.
I believe that our web-site has a listing of museum contacts as well that
my be helpful (www.utoronto.ca/museum) just click on the "Internships"
button.

I hope some of this was useful to you, it worked for me.

Cheers,

John.
