Several people have contacted me and said that they did not get a copy of previous notices about
the Rocky Mount Children's Museums dilemma. I am enclosing some of it here to bring you all up
to date. Basically they lost the entire museum and all contents. The building is still standing
but everything else was discarded by the cleanup crews as contaminated. I have volunteered to
run interference for them while they handle all the daily drudgeries.

9-24-99 I just got off the telephone with Candy Madrid in Rocky Mount NC. They were flooded out
when the Tar River overflowed its banks. The Museum
building was under nine feet of water. Several of her staff, whose homes were in the flood zone
lost everything they had. Not a pretty picture.
As far as what they need "YOU NAME IT". All records and paperwork, including computers, fax
machines, copy machines, telephones etc. Were
lost. They can use any office machinery from simple typewriters to computers. She wants to try
and keep at a minimum the museum outreach intact and can use and type of art materials that are
available.
They're not sure of the building's fate but all permanent exhibits were lost. They had just
started a remodeling project and had put allot of there exhibits in tractor trailers for safe
keeping from all of the construction dust. Needless to say the trailers floated for awhile then
sank.

Subject: Rocky Mount Children's Museum"Collection"

The following list "Collection", are items that were salvaged from the Rocky Mount Children's
Museum. These items are all that is left from their 16,000 +/-square foot museum. All other
items were remove and disposed of as contaminated including one traveling exhibit. As you can
see there isn't much left.
I have arranged the list by item number (#), number of items per item number (1) (12) (etc.),
items that are already pledged for and company responsible for repairing / cleaning of the item
(???)and item description. What we need to do now is to get as many museums to pick some of
these items and arrange to have them restored (if possible) to as near as new condition.
Remember these items were under nine feet of water and have been exposed to the air for more
than a month. Some items will probably be lost forever.
If you notice items # 1,4,22,60,73,83,89,90,91,92,99,107,117,118,131,135,146and 207 have already
been taken. I have arranged for several local groups to take these items and repair / restore
them as best they can. The (AND) listed under responsible for is me Architects in Design. When
an item is taken I will put that institution name in parentheses and on the next publishing of
the list your name will appear for that item. Lets try to get all items spoken for as quickly as
possible.
Remember:
1.If you wish to send any monetary contributions to the museum:
Send all contributions to(not to Me or AYM):

2. All office equipment and normal operation equipment were taken to the dump and buried as
contaminated items. So they can use almost anything. If you have some items that you feel can be
used send me a list of these items and I'll set up a donation list for all to see what has been
pledged to or donated.
3. I'll have to find out how to ship these items to people too far away to drive to Rocky Mount
N.C. to pick up the items Any Ideas?
