Gaylord carries the tri-rod, which is a wonderful form of ethafoam. Is makes very nice, easy to make supports for ceramics, enabling them to be stable without putting them on their rims. It is soft enough on its outside for ceramics to be directly against it with out scratching them also.

I typically use it in tray that go into boxes (in an earthquake zone) but you can also glue gun it to pieces of bluebard that will also give a way to move them, pick them up, and keep them from bumping into each other on the shelves.

There are different sizes (the largest is probably the most flexible for ceramics) and I recommend cutting about 2-3 inch lengths and play around with different angles and such for different shaped ceramics. (when a piece is glued on end it is a 90 degree angle, on a flat side is 45, and you can cut it to get most angles in between or more shallow.)

Volara is my favorite material for resting the bottom of the piece on to give a little cushioning. (cheap to buy at mcmaster.com)
