Hi Sheila,
It is customary among art collections to list the artist's birth and death year 
after their name (if known- or just birth year if still living), to list the year of 
the painting (if known), a ca. year if confident and the exact year is unknown 
and to list nothing for the year (a blank- not n.d.) if the date is totally 
unknown.  Hope this helps.
