Hello,

I was very close to being hired at the Southwest as a Assistant curator in the Summer of 2004. I went through an extensive interview process while they created a unique position for me using my skills and then was not hired (I am an American Indian historian with background of working privately for American families to help direct the disbursement of their collections). My understanding is that they are closing the Southwest museum permanently and building a new museum on the Autry site. The current museum lacks room, is rodent and bug infested, and offers no way to expand on the current site. They want both collections on one site. At the time I was involved they were planning on selling the building, maybe for a school.

The Southwest Museum has a fine collection and they feel it will be better off next to the Autry. I have no idea how the capital campaign is coming along nor what will come of the current building. There was a great deal of concern for the collection, much of which as been moved to the Autry already for safety reasons.

Respectfully,
Sioux
