COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT
Position Description

Scope of Duties:
This position is part of the Collections unit composed of the Curator of
Collections, Registrar and Conservator.  The immediate supervisor for this
position is the Registrar.  This position will be responsible for
inventorying, cataloging and other general collections work.  Duties may
also include organization and cataloging of historic photograph or archival
collections material, organization of copy negative collection, and
assisting in conservation treatments and research.  Position may include a
special project, such as an analysis of a sub collection (depending on the
successful applicants* skills and interests).  Other duties as assigned.

Location and Work Schedule:
The workstation for this position is the Heritage Center on Mackinac Island
with occasional duties in Mackinaw City.  This is a 12-week position
beginning in June and ending in August.  This is a 40-hour per week
position, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.  Hours may vary according
to park needs and may include occasional weekend and evening work.

Educational Requirements:
The position requires the applicant be currently enrolled in a
graduate-level museum, history or related program.

Knowledge and Abilities:
                *       abbackground in history
*       abEducation and experience in basic museum practices
*       abKnowledge of registraral and collections management, policies and
procedures
*       abKnowledge of Computers
*       abGood work processing skills
*       abThe successful candidate should have experience in museum
inventorying, object handling, marking and cataloguing.

Internship Possibilities:
If an applicant need to complete an internship to meet credit requirements,
MSHP is willing to fill this position as a paid internship.
