PITZER COLLEGE
ARBORETUM MANAGER  #254


Monthly Salary:  $2,531.50 plus benefits.


Essential Functions: Regular, full-time exempt-level
position to manage the Pitzer College Arboretum.  Includes
coordination of academic uses of the Arboretum; development
and management of annual operating and special project
budgets.  Acts as working supervisor with groundskeeper
staff including students, temporary employees and
volunteers.  Installation, operation and repair of
irrigation systems; tool and equipment maintenance and
operation.  Maintain associated hardscape areas.
Participate on the college’s Arboretum Advisory Committee.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Thorough
knowledge of gardening techniques, horticulture, landscape
planning, sprinkler systems and gardening power equipment.
Knowledge of safety & training methods pertaining to
grounds, including tools, chemicals and equipment.
Excellent supervisory & management skills and the ability to
function independently.  Excellent planning and
organizational skills.  Ability to work within budgets.
Ability to deal with a diverse community of faculty, staff,
and students.   Must be able to lift and carry fifty pounds
for a distance  of 100 yards.  Must be able to maneuver in
narrow or confined spaces around fragile plants.  Must be
able to work outdoors in varying climates.  Ability to
drive; must have a valid driver’s license.  Must possess or
obtain a California Qualified Pest Applicator’s license.
Basic typing/keyboard skills and ability to work with
computers.   California Red Cross First Aid Certificate
required.


Education & Experience:  Associate or bachelor’s degree in
horticulture or other similar field and three years of
professional gardening experience.  Must possess knowledge
and demonstrated skills in basic horticultural practices
