The New York Hall of Science is undertaking a partnership with IBM and the
Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) to create a new public
science resource on the Internet.  A new web site will combine the rich
resources of the international science museum community and the technical
expertise of IBM to provide timely and interactive science learning on the
internet.

We are planning to hire a project director immediately.  The job
description follows.

Job Title:     Science Central Project Director
Reports To:    Director of the New York Hall of Science

Job Summary

The Project Director will be responsible for all aspects of
implementing the Science Central Web Site (working title), a
partnership project involving the New York Hall of Science, IBM,
the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), and science
museums around the world.

Major Responsibilities

1)   Recruit and hire project team
2)   Establish collaborative and cooperative working relations
               with ASTC, IBM, and science museums worldwide.
3)   Develop detailed work plan with milestones and measurable
               outcomes
4)   Oversee the ongoing development of timely science content in
               interactive Web based experiences
5)   Oversee the development of Science Central's look and feel
6)   Assure the highest technical and content quality
7)   Develop a model for sustaining the project beyond the three
                year grant period

Qualifications

  Ten years of progressively responsible project planning and
     leadership in science museums or related enterprises
  Fluency in the opportunities and technical aspects of the
     Internet
  Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  Experience in creating interactive science-based Web sites is
      very desirable
  Expertise in one scientific field or in science education is
       very desirable
  Extensive relationships in the science museum and science
        education community are very desirable

Conditions of Employment

The Science Central Project Manager will be a contract employee
of the New York Hall of Science, and will be based full-time in
New York City.  The projected period of the grant is for three
years starting July 1, 1998.
